In normal terms, the term “Management” explains the process of planning, organizing, directing, delegating and controlling the aspects of an organization.

In fact management is a very broader term and it has many facets, like: Strategic Management, Human resource management, Financial Management, Materials Management, Production Management, Safety Management, Purchase Management, Sales Management, Hospital Management, Business Management, and so on….

All the managements run through the fundamental principles of management PODDC – Plan, Organize, Direct, Delegate and Control.

PLANNING – In “Planning”, proper planning is done considering the objectives of the organization. All the aspects of the objectives are projected forthwith. Initially broad categories of the goals are defined and the broad categories are then broken into detailed categories going into minute sub categories clearly defining the targets and goals to be achieved through the said category or sub category as such.

ORGANISATION – To organize the things according to the plans drafted is very important. The organization structure is drawn and the levels of organization is drafted and the targets for each level is clearly defined and fixed for evaluating the actual achievements obtained in each level. In includes selection of the appropriate personnel to handle the plans to be accomplished.

DIRECTION – There should be proper direction for getting the things done in the way they are required. In the absence of proper direction the things may go wrong and the goals are not achieved.

DELEGATION – Delegation of authority and tasks is an important aspect in the management of things. To delegate and to manage the main objective should not be ignored. To break the main task into sub tasks and the main as well as sub tasks are properly delegated to the appropriate people suitable to undertake the tasks and carry on the tasks allotted to them successfully to achieve the goals of the organization.

CONTROL – The last but not the least principle of Management is “ Control “. Control envisages to check whether the tasks are going and being carried out in line with the objectives defined and the targets fixed at each level or milestone. To obtain the reports from each level and from each function and to compare and study the progress achieved should be there as it will help in taking corrective action if any deviations from the targets set is being noticed.

Therefore the principles of management have very well been recognized and adopted by the new era of Industrial and Scientific Management to achieve their objectives and goals.
